Touchless Trash and Recycling Bin

Everybody wants to contribute to being more green and keeping the Earth clean. One way to do your part is to recycle. Most cities have a recycling program now that makes it easy and convenient for you to separate your plastics, cans, cardboard, and paper from the rest of your trash. And this handy gadget makes it even easier to divide your trash and recycleables while keeping your waste area germ and odor-free.

This innovative Touchless Trash and Recycling System has two separate compartments, one for garbage and the other for recycleable items. Each 8 gallon container uses a standard 8 gallon or 13 gallon trash bag so when it is full all you need to do is take the bag out to the proper waste container that will later be picked up by your local trash collector.

But the greatest part about this Trash and Recycling System is that you never have to touch the lid or get your hands near the unsanitary surfaces of the cans. When you're ready to throw something away simply place your hand in front of the infrared sensor which opens the can automatically. Once you've trown away your waste, in the proper container of course, the lid will close again after three seconds without detecting movement. Don't like carrying your trash bags all through the house when they're full? This handy system also has wheels to move your trash and recycling wherever you want it.

Stylophone Beatbox

Are you musically inclined? If so, how many gadgets out there are musical enough for you, or are you one who wants to have something very different apart from the standard piano and drum kit? Enter the Stylophone Beatbox which opens up a whole new world of percussion goodness. The Stylophone Beatbox boasts three different sound modes: Drum Kit, Beatbox and Bass Stylophone. There’s also a scratch function that allows you to mix your sounds, record them and play them over your beats. You can even adjust pitch and tempo. Think of it as a portable beatbox with added irony. But what about those sounds? Prepare to be impressed because this bonkers doodah contains samples created by champion human beatboxer MC Zani. No, we haven’t heard of him either but we’re told he’s da boom and da lick. Or something like that

Talking Luggage Locator lets you know where your bags are

Of course, no one likes to be at the airport after an 8 hour luggage_locatorflight and wait for their luggage to come down the carousel. Imagine if you had a remote that you could just hit, and it would say something like “Hey! I’m over here!”

Surely this was the mission of the Talking Luggage Locator, because that is exactly what it is. It works by attaching a baggage tag with 6 flashing LEDs. In all honesty, the flashing LEDs would be enough to get my attention, and I would probably find it right away.

It helps to have a remote that works from 45 feet away so my own voice can say something else like: “Yo! You gonna grab me?” You can just imagine the cacophony in the baggage claim if every passenger had one of these.

Micro Sport Japanese MP3 Player

Which is the smallest MP3 player that you’ve come across? Most people would say the iPod shuffle, while others will rememeber of the MobiBLU Cube fondly. Well, the Micro Sport Japanese MP3 Player clearly lives up to its name, redefining the word “tiny” and bringing it to new heights (or should we say, size?)

The Micro Sport Player is two sugar cubes worth of electronics into which somehow is crammed 4GB of memory and a rechargeable battery. Amazingly this tiny player features full stereo sound. One earbud is attached directly to the side of the main unit, while the other earbud trails on a cord around the back of your head, just reaching the opposite ear. Loading music is incredibly easy. Simply plug the Micro Sport into the USB port of your computer. It mounts like a USB thumb drive, and you simply copy over any MP3 files you want to play.

ThinkGeek is carrying it for $89.99 – pretty hefty price considering the paltry amount of storage space that you get, but at least you know your money went into the miniaturization of things.

Mimo Mini USB Monitor – $129.99

Looking for that extra bit of screen real estate to get you through the busy workday? Referring to notes while writing an e-mail, checking info in a spreadsheet while entering data into a web page, keeping an eye on your to-do list while browsing YouTube… it’s handy to have additional monitor space at the ready. Problem is an entire secondary monitor comes with its own needs like requiring a separate power cord or perhaps an additional video card.

Thanks to the WikiReader, I am the smartest person in the room.

ars_wikireader_arsI got a chance to try out the Wikireader that we reported on earlier, and I will have to say that I am now the know-it-all. I’ve become like Cliff Claven from Cheers, who seems to know all the useless facts in the universe, and comes off as amazingly annoying.

The Wikireader by Openmoko is a device with a tiny black-and-white screen that uses 2 AAA batteries that are included. It requires no internet connection as all the 3 million entries are inside.

There are no illustrations, and the touchscreen allows for scrolling. Scrolling up and down creates a blurry effect that makes it easy to lose your place. Find out after the jump how Cyber Monday got its name.

S&J Co. offers Eggy portable mini speakers

How many designs can a pair of speakers come in? S&J Co. of Korea decided to take a different route instead of settling for the usual boxy or rectangular shape with the Eggy portable mini speakers. This 20mm micromini unit is insanely small, packing in an impressive 4 watt of RMS alongside an integrated digital amp for all your portable audio needs. This will squarely target the notebook and netbook market which have speakers that leave much to be desired, although that too is changing these days. Since it draws power from a USB port, there is no need to pick up another adapter with you on your travels, although it will put your notebook and netbook battery under additional strain.

Audio-Technica AT-LP60-USB LP-to-Digital Turntable System

Most young people these days already own a portable media player or digital audio player of sorts, and many of them grew up weaned on an iPod, moving on with each new iteration that Cupertino releases each year or so. Well, we’re not quite sure whether they have heard of a turntable before, and what are their impressions of it, but just in case some of you think that turntables belong to just DJ decks at night clubs, you’re dead wrong. These were the iPods of your grandad’s day, albeit being in a non-portable form, and you had to purchase your music from a brick and mortar store that come in the form of a vinyl record. Merge the old and the new and what do you get? The Audio-Technica AT-LP60-USB LP-to-Digital Turntable System, in which we’ll scrutinize closer lat

Apart from that, you get a one-touch backup button for easy duplication of your essential data.

Cydle P29A accompanies you on your travels

Do you do plenty of traveling throughout the year? If the answer is in the affirmative, then you might want to consider getting the new Cydle P29A as your faithful mobile sidekick. Meant to kickstart the budding mobile TV revolution, the Cydle P29A will be introduced formally to public eyes at CES 2010 which is happening next week. Just in case you have not heard about Cydle, they are an emerging leader in car-based multimedia systems and is also one of South Korea’s biggest consumer electronics companies. This multi-functional device boasts a multimedia player and subscription-free Mobile TV to keep you entertained on the road, where we will take a closer look at it in the extended post.

LG to introduce mobile DTV in US

South Korean companies have certainly come a long way since they first started off on wobbly ground, and boy are they conquering the global market in many industries. Their automakers, Hyundai and Kia are even able to give the Japanese companies a run for their yen, and Samsung and LG are already global players where consumer electronics are concerned. We’ll be taking a closer look at the latter today, with LG Electronics having the honor of introducing the industry’s first portable, battery-operated mobile DTV Stateside, where it was specially designed to receive new rugged over-the-air signals being transmitted by local broadcasters. The future for mobile DTV looks bright as hundreds of stations are expected to sign on the air this year in order to cater for portable TV reception demand that is currently on the uptrend.

The Palm-Sized DVD Player

Tiny screens to watch your DVDs on are nothing new. Many cars come with them packed into them to keep the kids in the backseat entertained. Well this one is a palm sized one for you to carry around. It’s definitely smaller than having to carry around your laptop in order to watch a DVD while you’re trying to kill some time somewhere. Whether or not you’d prefer a larger screen and sacrifice lightweight portability is of course a personal preference issue though.

Misa Digital Guitar has “got no strings”

digital_guitarSome of you might remember the opening of Bryan Adams hit song “Summer of ‘69″. It goes: “I got my first real six-string, brought it at the five and dime. Played ’til my fingers bled, it was the summer of ‘69″.

If Bryan Adams had meant the summer of 2069, then I doubt his fingers would be bleeding after playing a guitar. Why do I say that? Because I have seen the future of guitars, and it is without strings.

If you don’t believe me, then check out the video after the jump. You will note this guy is shredding on the Linux-powered Misa Digital Guitar, and there are no strings, just a light-up touchscreen.

Vizio rolls out Razor LED TVs

Vizio has managed to climb above its rivals in the US by being the top LCD HDTV company there through the potent combination of affordable pricing and decent technology, being “good enough” to cater to most people, never mind it being shunned by A/V enthusiasts who must have the absolute best. Well, the company recently announced that they will be rolling three more Razor LED models that are extremely slim, measuring no more than 1″ in length, with one of them being full well capable of receiving broadcasts courtesy of its new ATSC-M/H mobile/handheld platform which can operate when you’re on the go – yup, we’re talking about mobile TV here in LED format which ought to elicit a Pavlovian response with you salivating already.

Logitech Loud Enough Noise-Isolating Earphones

Mention Logitech and most people would think that you are talking about its computer speakers which offer a whole lot of bang for your buck, or even of their famous range of computer mice. Well, today we won’t be touching on either, but will still have something to do with audio – the Loud Enough Noise-Isolating Earphones. Judging by its name, you can more or less tell that it has some sort of built-in mechanism that limits the loudness of whatever music you’re playing at that point in time. Well, it works that way, but will target a market niche that most manufacturers have missed – kids. After all, there is no better time to teach your little ones something than when they’re young and still malleable, right? Might as well use the Logitech Loud Enough Noise-Isolating Earphones to make sure that they don’t pick up the bad habit of cranking up the volume beyond reasonable listening levels just because it is “cool”, only to suffer from hearing problems many years down the road in their adult life.

Faux Panning Security Camera

Keeping people out of your property can sometimes be as simple as giving the illusion of security. Even if you can’t afford a top of the line security system, this fake one looks real enough to fool most people. It might be overkill for most homes, but small businesses could definitely use them. They could even be used to get people to quit breaking into your garage.

IDAPT Compact Charging Stations

If you’re trying to manage all of those chargers, this IDAPT charging station can handle a few of your gadgets at once. It’d at least make your desktop a whole lot less cluttered. You’ll still have just as many gadgets on your desk, but they’ll look a little more organized sitting on this charger than they would scattered all about. Plus this’ll help free up space as far as your outlets go.

Netgear unveils new networking accessories for home theaters

Netgear has rolled out a bunch of new networking accessories which will target the home theater market in the form of the High-Performance Wireless-N HD Home Theater Kit (WNHDB3004) as well as the Universal WiFi Internet Adapter for Home Theater Devices and Gaming Consoles (WNCE2001). The former is a carrier-grade, tested and proven solution for wirelessly playing multiple jitter-free 1080p HD video and audio streams to virtually every room in your home flawlessly, boasting twice the performance and range of solutions in the market currently. As for the latter, it is capable of delivering Wireless-N performance of up to 300 Mbps via its Ethernet port of consumer electronic (CE) devices including Internet TVs, game consoles and Blu-ray players among others.

Samsung E6 eReader ready to hit the US market

Samsung wants to rock and roll with their own eBook reader as well which they have dubbed the E6 eReader (how convenient). It will still take some time to see just whether this market is big enough to support so many players, as eBook readers don’t seem to be making that much of an impact in the world against regular paperbacks compared to how the MP3 format literally brought the CD industry to its knees, with the iPod gaining a humongous market share that Apple doesn’t seem likely to be giving up its throne in that department anytime soon. But I digress – the Samsung E6 eReader now only allows you to access your content easily, it also doubles up as a form of digital notepad, taking down notes as well as thoughts on the page directly, the ability to highlight content and sharing notes with friends and peers. Samsung has merged more than a million electronic titles, advanced handwriting capabilities and Wi-Fi connectivity into a single, easy-to-use device which we’ll look at in greater detail right after the jump.

Samsung unveils R1 and R0 portable media players

Samsung does not only make computers, LCD and plasma TVs, home theater systems, and a slew of other consumer electronics, they are also pretty adept at the MP3 player market as well, with the R1 and R0 being the latest of such devices to arrive. These two models are touted to offer high quality multimedia content while optimizing such files for memory space. The R1 is no larger than a credit card, and yet has enough processing firepower to play a host of video content without the need for any conversion, while the R0 will deliver an excellent audio and video experience without breaking the bank. Both models are currently on public display at the Samsung Experience which is located at The Time Warner Center in New York City since March 9, 2010.

Tropicana creates an artificial sun

Ever seen the movie Insomnia? In the film, Al Pacino investigates a murder in an Alaskan town, but there is never any night. As it so happens, he arrived during the time where there are six months of daylight.

I always wondered if the film would have been scarier had it taken place during the six months of night. I think Christopher Nolan, the director of the film, had to make the dark Batman Begins to make up for the daylight of Insomnia. I hope I never have to live in a night that last six months.

I bring this up because a town of Inuvik was in that perpetual night, until Tropicana came to town. The orange juice company hooked up a gigantic helium balloon with about 100,000 lumens to make an artificial sun. You can see the video after the jump.

Tooks Headphone Hats

Don’t just make some noise the next time you go out, what about wearing noise instead? That is made possible thanks to the Tooks Headphone Hats, which is a stylish new kind of beanie which comes with high quality integrated earphones. These are meant to be extremely comfortable, covering your ears totally to keep them nice and warm when it is freezing all around, while providing you with ample audio juice to keep your ears happy. Perfect for joggers, snowboarders, hikers, commuters as well as folks who want to listen in to the radio in private, the Tooks Headphone Hats will come in Chunky Knit Black, Chunky Knit Plum, Classic Black and Classic Pink colors, retailing for $56.99 each.

MEDL introduces first portable 13″ LED monitor

We’ve see monitors progress from CRT to LCD and now, LED and perhaps even OLED if you are feeling rather generous in your pockets, but how many of those are truly portable? No sir, they sit on your desk all day long, and lugging one around would probably cause you a bad back in no time. Needless to say, those tiny USB-powered monitors don’t really count as portable, since they more or less act as a supplementary monitor instead of a primary one. MEDL Technology intends to change the way we do things with their device which is simply known as ‘The Panel’, where it boasts of being the first fully functional, portable LED monitor in the world. Now how about that – your very own portable LED monitor tucked right under your arm? Trippin’! Let us delve further into what MEDL’s The Panel offers in the extended post.

Sony Dash ready to hit the market

Back at CES 2010 we saw that Sony unveiled the Dash during their press conference, and while this was never going to be a game changer of any kind, it was still nice to see yet another touchscreen device ready to hit the market. Well, a good 4 months or so has elapsed since then, and it is finally good to know that Sony will be introducing its Dash Wi-Fi touchscreen device to the market at last, where you are able to receive real-time, personalized Internet content that is pushed to you regardless of whether you are at home or at the office. The Sony Dash has been tagged with a $199 price tag, where you can purchase it online from SonyStyle.com or pick it up from other Sony Style retail stores and authorized dealers nationwide.

AirVolt Wireless Phone Charger

With a whole lot of other computing equipment taking the wireless route, how about your phone charger? Well, ThinkGeek is offering the Air Volt Wireless Phone Charger which is going for $49.99 each, where all you need to do is slide your handset into the included receiver case, place it on the power tray and you’re good to go. It is as efficient as your standard charger, although it will definitely lose out to those quick chargers. Another good thing about the AirVolt Wireless Phone Charger is it will power off automatically once your handset is completely juiced up, boasting an additional USB power port just in case you want to make sure your Nintendo DS is ready for the long road trip.
